AZLOCO Release Party 21 April 2018

Canonical will be releasing Ubuntu 18.04, Bionic Beaver, on 26 April 2018. To celebrate this event Ubuntu-Arizona Local Community Team will conduct a Release Party at the home of Walter and Ingeborg Mack, 5831 W. Kesler St. Chandler, AZ on 21 April from 2-6pm. The AZLOCO/PLUG Installfest for the same day at the University of Advancing Technology will be relocated to that location also starting at 2 pm. instead of the normal 10 am. Internet will be available, installs will still be conducted and problems will be solved while we celebrate the release of Bionic Beaver and enjoy some excellent food, great camaraderie, and some serious (and some not so serious) discussions. More details to follow. Pencil in the event on your calendar now. Everyone interested in Free and Open Source Software is invited. Please bring a dish to share. For any questions, please contact releaseparty@componentsw.com

AZLOCO/PLUG Installfest Canceled

The installfest scheduled for 06 January has been canceled because the UAT needs to use of the room that we had reserved. This is unfortunate and beyond our control. So to add some continuity to our events which have been scheduled for the first and third Saturdays of each month, we will hold an extended Ubuntu Hour/Linux get together at the Xtreme Bean, 1707 E. Southern Ave. in Tempe from 10-4 pm on 06 January. Treat it as an impromptu Installfest/Linux Workshop/Extended Ubuntu Hour/Linux get together. Attend if you can.

Cochise Linux User Group/AZLOCO Installfest

The Cochise Linux user Group in conjunction with the Ubuntu-Arizona Local Community Team will be conducting their third Installation Festival on 28 October 2017, 10-4pm at the University of Arizona South Learning Resource Center, 1140 N. Colombo Ave. Sierra Vista AZ.

Ubuntu Arizona Local Community Team Re-verification

It is time for the AZLOCO Team to be re-verified by the LoCo Council. We are on the agenda for their 12 September 2017 meeting at 2000 UTC (1300 our time). The meeting will take place on #Ubuntu-meeting on irc.freenode.net. Attend the meeting if you can to support your local Team.

Yet One More Ubuntu Member

Paul Kairis, AKA pavlos, has been accepted as a Ubuntu member. He brings the total of Ubuntu members who are also AZLOCO members to 10. Ubuntu membership is granted to those individuals who have demonstrated a sustained and significant contribution to Ubuntu and/or the Ubuntu community. We wish to congratulate all three of our newly accepted Ubuntu members for their contributions and wish them success in all of their endeavors.

New Ubuntu Members

Two AZLOCO members, Walter Mack and Mark Thomas, have been accepted as Ubuntu members on 2 February 2017. Official Ubuntu Membership means recognition of significant and sustained contribution to Ubuntu or the Ubuntu community. Congratulations to both of them. They are well deserving of the honor which is not handed out lightly.
